Rating Question
Rating Question: A Quick Satisfaction and Quality Assessment
A star rating that captures both how good something is and how important it is - familiar, quick to answer, and easy to compare across responses.
What it is
A rating question asks respondents to score something - a product, an experience, a specific feature - most commonly shown as stars. In Armlytic, the same question can also capture a second dimension: how important that same thing is to the respondent. Together, one quick set of taps answers both "how good was this" and "how much does it matter".
When to use it
- You're measuring satisfaction or quality for one specific thing
- You want answers that respondents can give in just a few taps, using the familiar rating format they already know from reviews and online stores.
- You need results that are easy to average and compare across questions, surveys or time periods
- You want to prioritize what to fix first, not just see what scored lowest
Best practices
- Keep the scale direction consistent (low to high) across every rating question in the same survey
- Use the built-in importance rating alongside the score to see what actually needs fixing first, not just what scored low
- Clearly define the rating criteria in your question so respondents know exactly what they are evaluating.
Common pitfalls
- Mixing scale directions across questions confuses respondents and quietly corrupts your data
- A score alone doesn't explain why it's low - use the importance rating to prioritize, and add an open text question when you need the reasoning behind it
- Too coarse a scale loses the nuance between "fine" and "great"
